Nightmares

We know what’s happening to you.
You’ve tried to tell others. You’ve tried to make them understand. They don’t. You explain about the nightmares, about how they make you feel, and people smile and nod and say that maybe you should try having a cup of tea before you go to bed.
But we understand. We know how bad it is. Even better, we know you’re not crazy. You feel like you might be, but you’re not. We can’t explain everything you’re going through, but we can give you more information than you have now. Just listen.
You could draw a line in your life, a clear division—the time before the nightmares and the time after. You think you’re the same person you’ve always been. You feel like the same person, you have the same memories. But since the nightmares started, the rest of the world feels different. You have become what we call a “nightwalker.”
The Most Important ThingHere, then, we come to the single most important piece of information we can tell you. If you disregard the rest of what we say, if you crumble up this brochure and throw it away and try to never think of it again, remember this. Remember this one thing:
That feeling is real. You are being hunted.
Perhaps that should be in bold. And capital letters
You haven’t yet met who is hunting you. If you had, you would not have survived to read this.
This is what you need to look out for: They look wrong. They walk the streets like normal people; they can pass for a normal person if you don’t look at them for too long. But if you take a second look, you see the bloated skin. The unearthly glow behind the empty eyes. The jaw that seems to keep falling open. If you get close enough—and you shouldn’t, you should never get close—you feel the heat coming off them, like their torso is filled with smoldering coals.
